Green It Program

Operational Routine

The Green IT program, in operation since August 2007, allows the revitalization of the structured cabling network through the replacement of cables and connectivity accessories of obsolete technologies with state-of-the-art solutions. The replaced materials are collected, receive treatment and are recycled by Furukawa, being transformed into raw material for other industries, in other applications.

* Green It program is available in Brazil, Argentina and Colombia

Mottainai's Philosophy

To reduce, to reuse and to recycle

Mottainai is a Japanese word that conveys a deep sense of gratitude for everything that nature offers. It is a philosophy of life that reflects and integrates concepts like: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair and Rethink. Therefore, Mottainai means a commitment of the human being with nature, life and the planet Earth. In other words, live in total harmony with the environment. Therefore, since 2007, we have always adopted the Mottainai philosophy to emphasize respect for the environment, showing people from simple examples of Mottainai in daily live to more complex acts applicable to the business environment.

Respect for the Environment

Our socio-environmental policies attest our commitment to build an evolutionary and sustainable society. The recognition of this conduct came with the ISO 14001:2004 Certificates for Environmental Management granted by Underwriters Laboratories of Brazil (UL) to the industrial unit of Curitiba - Paraná - Brazil. Good examples are the internal recycling of wastes and the Lead Free cables and LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cables that use halogen-free components, which contribute to the low emission of toxic gases and smoke.

RoHS Directive

Balance Between Man and Nature

The European RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Guideline restricts the use of certain substances considered hazardous to the environment and to humans. Environmental care is present in the development process of new products, seeking to use the highest quantity possible of materials that are recyclable and have the lowest possible impact on the environment.

Environmental Label

Green Label

We genuinely believe that protecting the environment is meeting the needs of future generations. Therefore, we develop products that prioritize the conservation of natural resources. From the obtainment of the raw material, passing by manufacture and distribution, to its appropriate disposal and recycling at the end of its useful life. The efficiency of this process resulted in the achievement of the Environmental Certification – Ecological Label – Green Seal granted by ABNT (Brazilian Technical Standard Association), making Furukawa the first Telecommunication and IT industry in the Brazilian market to achieve this, consequently, our line of LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cables now have the Green Seal on their packages.

Internal actions

Management Furukawa

Waste Management. We have a great Waste Management program to reduce the impacts and damages resulting from our production activities, it contemplates 100% of the wastes generated at the industrial plant in Curitiba - PR - Brazil. To meet this objective, we invested in the improvement of processes, reuse and recycling of materials, with correct disposal of wastes. In the administrative and manufacturing area, all waste is separated at the origin, then collected and sent to companies specialized in recycling. Which , in turn, are subjected to strict screening performed by the Environmental Management department of Furukawa, and must meet the specific criteria, which makes them suitable for consideration by the Environmental Service Providers – PSA.
