The importance of pre-connected networks for the growth of telecommunications

Due to the growing demand for fiber optic connections, Furukawa Electric highlights the importance and advantages of pre-connected networks.

The world changed dramatically in recent years, affecting both personal and professional aspects. Today, with the increase in hybrid work, video conferencing services, education 4.0, cloud storage and gaming entertainment, it resulted in an increase of up to 40%1 in data traffic in some countries. Thus, the demand for more stable and supported connections to larger bands also grew, but at the same time, some weaknesses in telecommunications networks became evident.

This context represents an opportunity for suppliers to improve and expand, but how can this be done in a scalable and planned manner, contemplating the greatest number of possibilities for the consumer? The solution lies in pre-connected FTTx networks. These are examples of efficient solutions; their use grew as the Engineering and Sales departments of the major telecommunications operators faced increasingly risky challenges and increasingly stronger competition.

Pre-connected FTTx solutions become essential to have better performance conditions, in addition, they save time thanks to the speed in the installations and implementations of fiber optic networks. They are more reliable, easier and faster to install, allowing the best distribution of networks in a cost-effective and secure manner. Another advantage when using this technology is the decrease in the cost of network expansion, since when the fiber leaves the operator's building it can be divided into thousands of other points, reducing the amount of technical errors and making the workforce more accessible, both in the installation and in the maintenance.

By not requiring such specialized labor and with the simple design of the Plug&Play construction of the network, pre-connected networks can contribute to the growth of the business on a large scale (Time to Market) or to the growth on demand, which allows a reduction in CAPEX. Similarly, they are not subject to electromagnetic interference, so there is less signal loss, they require less use of fibers thanks to point-multipoint networks, this facilitates control and monitoring and in addition, asymmetric GPON networks provide greater reach, up to 20 kilometers between OLT and ONT.  These conditions reduce instabilities, time out periods and latency.

The growing demand for fiber optics requires solutions that allow rapid growth, with a simple and reliable construction and, above all, that reduce implementation time and cost. By designing and constructing an FTTx network, long-term thinking helps ensure business success. Therefore, having an efficient FTTx solution will be critical to the survival of certain companies in this highly uncertain scenario.
